Multiracial Identities

Since we've been talking about the fluidity of racial identities, and whether or not we have entered "post-racial America", take a look at this article from yesterday's New York Times on the growing prominence of multiracial identity among young Americans.

  2. Kimberly,

I find it interesting how we have a choice of what race we want to be. People tend to choose the difference races that have in their background so that they may gain social purpose, or even gain some upward mobility in society. Some races don't have a choice of what their background is, and in return it isn't fair. This was a very interesting article, and it brought up some good points.

  3. I wonder what exactly a "post-racial" America even means. It is more amusing to me that so many pundits have jumped on this arbitrary term, when there is no clear or discernible way to measure such a claim. How is it that we could define a "post-racial" society? It would seem that this term is merely allowing us to be more blunt about racial issues, which is admittedly a start. But if the dialogue between the races is not fostered by the American public then it will go back in the closet, just as quickly as this niche human interest piece.
